Hoopoes and red squirrels

Hoopoes are regular Spring visitors. The huge, heraldic crested Hoopoe, looking like a French tapestry, hops about fearlessly in front of the house, looking for insects under the trees. Nothing fazes him, and if disturbed by humans or the odd cat he spreads his golden crest and stalks away, slowly.
You could mistake him for a Jay, with black and white striped wings and tail, but his head and body are golden. He’s worth coming to see!! Read the rest of this entry »
